Kyson and his new buddy!

We are back home now and everything is going well. Kyson got out of Primary Children's on the 9th of March. One of the pictures is of Kyson and Dr. Kestle-the neurosurgeon who operated on him. He was pretty swollen at the time. It was sure nice when the swelling was all gone. It took about a week or so for it to go away.

He was so excited to come home. I have never seen him so quiet when we put him in his car seat before. He usually starts to fuss. It was as if he was saying-"I'm not gonna cry or fuss just keep me in here and take me home!"

We returned to SLC the next week and picked up his new helmet. He has to wear it 23 hours a day and only gets it off for 1 hour every evening. He then gets his bath and a few minutes of playtime before it goes back on and off to bed.

He has been doing really well with it though and seems to be adjusting to having it on. He looks really cute in it. We have also noticed his head changing shape already.

He will wear this particular helmet for around 2 months and then he will get a new one. He will go through 3 or 4 helmets before he is done. The goal is to be done with the helmet therapy early next year.

Kayden and Camden think he is so cute in his helmet and smother him in kisses. They look out for their little brother and are doing a great job being careful around him.

We sure appreciate all the prayers offered in our behalf the last few weeks. We are truly blessed by our Heavenly Father to have such great friends and family. The Lord has definately been with us each step of the way.

We are sitting in our room at primary children's right now. Kyson had a strip craniectomy on Friday morning.Didn't he look cute in his cute pajamas.

He has sagittal craniosynostosis where some of the bones in his skull were fused at birth. The surgeons removed a 2" strip of bone down the middle of his head. The incisions look painful as you can see.His pain is well controlled by meds-thank-goodness!

The surgery went well and we are on the road to recovery. He is a little swollen today but is such a strong little man. We hope to get out tomorrow. He has had a high fever and high heartbeat-so they have to get that down and then we can go home. He will be wearing a helmet to help his head grow normally until he is about a year old. We will get that next week sometime.

The Doctor holding Kyson is Dr. Siddiqi-the craniofacial plastic surgeon who did the surgery (along with Dr. Kestle the neurosurgeon). They did a great job.

Paul keeps a close eye on his little guy. He is such a great father to his boys and a wonderful husband!! We all love him very much!

Lots of stuff happening with the kids. They are doing and saying so many cute things it's hard to keep up.

How important it is to make sure some of this stuff is written down though.

The other night, Kayden wanted me to come and tell him a story. I laid down next to him on his bed. He was tired, quiet and appeared so serene as I looked at his cute little face. He said "Dad, do you want to hold hands?" I said sure, and interlocked his little fingers in mine. I then said, "Kayden, I love you", he replied "Dad, I love you too." How precious those moments are to me. I am so grateful to have a little guy that loves me.

Camden is quite a little sweetie too. He's got curly hair which he gets from his dad. One of my favorite things to do is say "Camden, where did you get your hair from?" He'll get a big smile on his face, pat my head and say "Daddy".

He learned how to jump out of his crib a few nights ago so we've been struggling with that. He absolutely refuses to go to bed. I was laying down with Kayden and saw Camden lift his leg up over the side...swing his whole body up on top of the rail, and then drop to the ground. He pops right up and heads out the door to harass Corene.

2 funny stories with that little stinker.

One night a few months ago... Camden was crying. Corene and I decided, ya know.. we should let him cry himself to sleep otherwise he'll realize he can get us to do whatever he wants by crying. So, we let him cry for a while... finally he went to sleep. When we went back to grab his bottle we smelled a very stinky diaper. We were heartbroken that we made him cry himself to sleep with a stinky diaper.

A couple weeks ago we laid Camden down for bed. Corene said "he's going to go to bed for sure this time because he's so tired and thirsty. Corene and I started watching an episode of NCIS and before ya know it he started screaming. We figured we'd make another go at teaching the little guy a lesson. We said... alright.. here we go. (the poopy diaper episode had been dimmed in our minds by the passage of time). So... He cried, he cried, and he cried some more. We finished our NCIS and he was still screaming. Finally, my heart just couldn't take it anymore so I went back and got him. He had tears all over his face, and made sure to say "baba, baba (his word for bottle)" and grab his bottle before I lifted him out of the crib. I brought him out into the living room and set him on the ground. He immediately ran to Corene repeating "Mama, Baba, Mama, Baba" while pointing to his bottle. In horror we looked at his bottle and discovered the nipple had been turned inside out. It was completely full of milk. We'd left him back there thirsty, but unable to drink from his bottle because he'd turned his nipple inside out. For the 2nd time, our lesson had backfired on us.

Here is a picture of the boys playing around on a Saturday evening. What great fun!

Kayden and Dad took a canoe ride in the pond by our home. We had a great time tooling around the water and checking out the croaking frogs with the bubbles blowing up from their throats. Kayden asked me why frogs croak. When we got back in the house we looked it up on the internet and learned they croak to find girlfriend frogs. Also... to tell the other boy frogs to get away. LOL

Here is the bed Kayden and I made in the back of the Tahoe at the Father and Son's outing. Kayden and I had a great time together.

Paul and Corene's Trip to Las Vegas

Wow... Can you believe it... 2 Mormons in Las Vegas? Well, it's true. Corene and I did take a vacation to "Sin City".

We actually had quite a good time. We stayed at "The Wynn" which is a 2.7 billion dollar resort. It was actually the largest privately funded building project in the US. Very fancy. We had a 22nd story view of the strip right across from Trump tower. The night lights were a sight to see.

We saw a couple of night shows, "V - The Ultimate Variety show" and "Ice" both of them were pretty amazing.

We even gambled enough to cure ourselves of any desire we might ever have had to gamble. We took adavantage of the FREE $100 slot play at one of the famous casinos. Watching the $100 bill go into the machine and 3 pulls later seeing it disappear was cure enough. We had no desire whatsoever to put any of our own hard earned money into those money pits.

Our boys are soooo cute. Here is a little peek into the future. Kayden is going to be a very good big brother who will always watch our for his little brother Camden.

My family is doing really well. I love my kids. Camden is walking, says dada, baba, and smiles like crazy. He is such a happy baby. He smiles and just doesn't stop. It makes everyone else smile too. He has a good heart. He's a tender little guys sometimes because he will have these moods where he is very clingy. If you leave him he will cry. Another funny thing about him is whenever he gets tired - he will just lay down right where he is at. Like tonight at Mom and Bob's he just dropped down right on the hardwood kitchen floor and started drinking his bottle and going to sleep. It's hilarious.

Kayden is a lot of fun too. He likes to copy his dad whatever he is doing. Today we were playing basketball with Shana and John and I said "Son of a biscuit". Guess what came out of Kayden's mouth immedietely following my comment - yup... the exact same phrase. I've got to be careful. He is putting big sentences together, expressing his own opinions and saying things that I just can't believe would be coming out of a 3 year old's mouth. I love him dearly.

Corene continues to be an amazingly supportive wife and mother. I have so many projects going on and as a result she is left to contend with the kids for the major portions of each day. She continues to mother her children and take care of her husband without any complaints. I can't believe I was so blessed to have found her (and convinced her :) ) to become my wife. I look forward to the many years together that we have ahead of us.

Here is our little tiger. One day while Corene was busy with Camden, Kayden came up and said "Mom I a tiger". Corene said "Oh.. that's cool Kayden, you can be a tiger" (not paying much attention to him). Then Kayden said "No mom, Look! I a tiger!" Corene then turned to find that Kayden had done quite a number on himself with a sharpie marker. Pretty funny.

Well - It's been such a long time since we "blogged" I must offer my humblest apologies to any loyal followers we might have out there in Cyberspace. I have been busy working on some new business projects. (To see my new commercial go to www.teamsyntek.com). Anyway, life has been great for the Hutching's family. We continue to live our lives in happiness here in our little piece of Heaven on Earth in Wapello Idaho.

Kayden is a great big brother to Camden. They get a long really well and have fun playing with each other. They are quite a pair.

Here you see Kayden and Dad harvesting some potatoes out of our weed filled garden (haven't quite got the knack of that yet). It was a great experience to plant some things and see them grow. Kayden really enjoyed the time spent with dad in the garden.

Little Camden is standing up on his own. It's the cutest thing. He will be standing up next to the couch looking at all of us and all of a sudden he will hold both his hands up in the air, balance, and smile until he has to grab on again or fall down. Corene, Kayden and I cheer him on. When Kayden was at this stage it was only Corene and I doing the cheering. Now we have an extra helper. It's nice to have a family to support each other in times of triumph.

Kayden is talking so much that I'm completely amazed each time I hear him. Corene and Kayden were watching "Tales From Avonlea" (Corene got the entire set for her birthday and has been enjoying them immensely), and there were some folks bailing some hay. Kayden all of a sudden looks up at Corene and says, "Mom, my hands not big enough to do that". They were in the grocery store this week and some guy came up and started talking to them. After he left they were passing another gentleman and Kayden said to him "Don't talk to me!"

PS - Camden now has two little bottom teeth that are so cute. Nothing on the top yet.

Last Saturday Corene and I decided to take the kids to Yellowstone Bear World. Although Camden slept through most of the trip - Kayden had a WONDERFUL time.

Above you see Kayden petting a deer (almost got attacked by one), and Camden saying "hello" to Mr. Goat while Mr. Goat tries to eat his blanky. The park had some fun rides that Kayden had a blast on. While we were there we saw John and Shana. They took the kids on a few rides as well. Family is the BEST!

Camden is such a funny little guy. He loves to give us funny looks and laugh. He plays psychological games with Corene all the time. He's crawling like a champ. He does the move one back leg drag the other thing that Kayden did. As you can see in the picture his first tooth is there on the bottom. He's had it for a while but I thought I better get a picture of it. He's a terrible sleeper and Corene can tell you all about that. :) We love our family!

Yesterday morning I was getting ready for work as I do every weekday. It was early and Corene & the kids were still in bed. I had my slacks and socks on so I sat down to slide on my right shoe. I had just wiggled my foot all the way into the shoe when I felt something lumpy underneath my toe. I pulled my shoe off and to my pleasant surprise found a cheerio that had carefully placed inside by a two foot tall character named Kayden. I broad smile broke out across my face in the wee hours of the morning as I sat there alone contemplating what a joy it is to find little treasures that have been placed inside my shoes by my two year old son. I love moments like that one. Finding that cheerio reminded me how much I love my children. If I never stop finding toys and snacks in my shoes it will be too soon. These are the moments that make life worth living.

Today, while laying in his crib, Camden learned to pull himself up by grasping onto the top edges and standing up on his own two legs. I think he's probably set a new record in the Hutching's family for standing up at such an early age. He's also getting around pretty well on all four's. After work I was laying with him on the bed. One minute he was right next to me and the next thing I knew he had fallen off the other side of the bed. Fortunately, he's a tough little guy and was OK after a few tears.

Tonight we walked down to Grandpa Ford and Grandma Carol's after dinner. We had a nice visit. Kayden demonstrated how he can say "Kayden Paul Hutchings". Grandpa and Grandma also enjoyed his rendition of "Choo, Choo the Big Train is Coming Down the Tracks". He also played catch with Grandpa. Afterwards, all 4 of us loaded up on the 4 wheeler and rode home. Kayden LOVED that.
Just before bedtime Kayden began rocking on his trusty horse, Bo. Next thing we knew Kayden had tumbled completely forward and onto the ground. He got up, walked over the the stuffed horse, grabbed the rains, patted his nose and said "wo horse". Then he said "This horse bucked me off". It's so hilarious to here him say things. He was so serious in this mini western that played out on our living room floor consisting of a two foot tall country western star, Kayden, and a stuffed rocking horse named Bo. I never want these kids to grow up. I'm enjoying them so much along the way.

Time Well Spent

At times, it seems, we are more concerned with doingn the things that "we" want to do rather than engaging in seemingly trivial activities like laying down with our kids while they watch a "Kid Songs" video. How grateful I am for the moments when I realize that those precious moments are just that... "moments", that will soon pass and be gone. I know there will come a time when I will long for those chances I had to lay down with my son and watch renditions of "Mary had a little lamb". I hope that I will continue to take advantages of those wonderful gifts of time that I have while raising my beautiful children.

Yesterday Corene and Camden went to Utah for Erin's bridal shower. Kayden and I spent the day together. We had lunch at Rupe's with mom and then went to Wal-Mart where Kayden was treated to a shiny crome horn for his tricycle. Mom also bought him a blow-up swimming pool which he absolutely had a ball swimming in back at Grandma's house. This morning he told Corene all about his fun day with the "Horn for mine bike" and his new "bimming pool".

Camden is all but crawling. He gets up on all fours and sticks his bum up in the air. He is quite a smiler. He loves it when we pretend that we can't see him and then all of a sudden go "there you are". He smiles big when we do that. He has pretty blue eyes and a very cute smile. He can sure be a stubborn baby when he wants to be. For the most part he is an ideal baby but sometimes he will scream his little head off. Mostly this happens when we are driving home from somewhere and he doesn't want to be in the back all by himself. I guess you can't hardly blame him for not wanting to be alone in the dark.

The Monkey Ghost

With all of the challenges of parenting I can honestly say that the innumurable little pleasures that come with the role make the job completely worthwhile. Tonight I spent about an hour with Kayden telling him different versions of the "Monkey Ghost" story. I would finish with one version that took place in the forest and he would beg me for another so the characters would move to Egypt. After Egypt we found ourselves in ancient dinasaur land searching for the infamous "Monkey Ghost". The climax of each version found Kayden (the hero of each saga) face to face with the monkey ghost where he would tell the villain "push back, push back". The Monkey Ghost would then be frightened by Kayden's threatening command and go home. Kayden was then the hero with all of the characters clapping and praising his monkey ghost fighting skills.

Watching the awe and wonder in Kayden's eyes as well as his begging for "one more" story is a prize that can be won in no earthly contest nor bought with any amount of money. Being a Father is one of the greatest things that has ever happened to me.

Camden is pushing himself with his arms and legs and is just a hair away from crawling. He is the most well tempered baby. As long as he has had something to eat he is content to lay on his back for extended periods of time without complaint. Lately he has been smiling and sticking his toungue in and out while curling it. Quite a feat for a 5 month old. He is starting to look more like Kayden I think.
